University of Texas student-athletes excel in both athletics and academics |
The University of Texas track and field program has achieved a significant academic milestone, with 25 student-athletes named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team for 2025.
To qualify for this honor, individuals must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 and meet specific athletic performance standards.
The men's team posted a collective GPA of 3.31, while the women's team led with a program-high 3.49.
Among the honorees are standout performers such as Nina Ndubuisi, who made history by becoming the first Longhorn to win an SEC title in track and field after throwing a personal best of 18.91 meters in the shot put, breaking a 25-year program record.
Kendrick Smallwood also earned recognition by winning the 110-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 13.13 seconds, setting a new Texas record.
These athletes have demonstrated exceptional dedication, balancing rigorous training schedules with demanding coursework in fields such as engineering, business, and the sciences.
Coaches commend the athletes for utilizing structured study halls, peer tutoring networks, and one-on-one academic advising to excel both on the track and in the classroom.
The athletic department's support team, including academic counselors and learning resource coordinators, provided tailored guidance on time management and remote study options during away meets.
This recognition underscores Texas's commitment to developing well-rounded student-athletes.
As competition heats up for the upcoming season, these honorees carry forward the pride of scholarly distinction alongside their athletic ambitions, proving that excellence at the university extends far beyond the finish line. |
