Celebrating Local Champions Making a Difference in the Community |
As the 2025 MLS All-Star Game approaches, Austin's Q2 Stadium is set to host not only a thrilling match but also a heartfelt tribute to local champions.
The league has announced the 2025 MLS Hometown Heroes, honoring four Austinites whose dedication has profoundly impacted their communities.
Fidel Campuzano González, co-executive director of Austin Youth River Watch, has spearheaded numerous river-cleanup initiatives and educational programs, teaching students the importance of preserving the Colorado River.
LaKissa Bright, founder of Ladders for Leaders, conducts job-readiness workshops and mentorship programs for underrepresented teens, guiding them from high school to college and career paths.
Gabriela Kane Guardia, executive director of Latinitas, has expanded digital media labs and summer camps, empowering young girls through coding, journalism, and leadership projects.
Bill Wallace, founder of Tomorrow’s Promise Foundation, has mobilized volunteers to renovate community centers and build playgrounds in East Austin neighborhoods.
An honorary mention goes to Ismael Guzmán, founder of East Austin Soccer, whose free leagues and clinics have introduced hundreds of immigrant and refugee youth to organized play.
These individuals will be celebrated at a private showcase event downtown, where MLS stars, club officials, and the public will gather to honor their contributions.
This recognition underscores MLS's commitment to community impact, highlighting that beyond the pitch, it's dedicated neighbors who truly keep Austin strong. |
