Community Unites to Equip Students for the Upcoming School Year |
Austin's young scholars are eagerly preparing for the new academic year, thanks to the annual CBS Austin and Telemundo Austin Backpack Giveaway.
This cherished community event provides free backpacks filled with essential school supplies—pens, notebooks, folders, and more—to hundreds of area students in need.
Organizers collaborate with local businesses and generous sponsors like Daniel Stark to cover the costs of bags and materials, ensuring every child receives the tools necessary for learning.
Telemundo Austin joins CBS in hosting the giveaway across multiple distribution sites, making it accessible for families from all neighborhoods to participate.
Volunteers from sponsoring firms, led this year by Madeline Rutherford and Linda McMillan, dedicate weeks to collecting donations, assembling packs, and staffing the distribution tents.
“Giving back is truly at the heart of what we do,” Rutherford and McMillan explained, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in leveling the playing field for students.
Beyond backpacks, the event fosters a sense of pride and excitement: kids chat about new pencils and fresh notebooks, parents share tips on preparing for the school year, and volunteers celebrate the palpable energy of hope and possibility.
As the countdown to the first day of classes ticks closer, Austin’s families can rest a little easier knowing their children are ready to learn, courtesy of a cooperative effort that underscores the power of local generosity. |
